The Kastelli community centre is a learning, leisure and cultural centre owned and run by the City of Oulu. It was built as a life cycle project. With YIT taking responsibility for the management and maintenance of the building, facility users are free to concentrate on their studies and leisure activities.

Life cycle model-based construction is both responsible and sustainable – but why is the model not used more in construction? We asked our life cycle expert Mika Kukkonen how to tackle the prejudices related to life cycle models.

The quality of maintenance in schools and day care centres completed with the life cycle model is high, and there are no surprise costs during the maintenance period. The project model is praised by both principals and the cities’ property managers.

The more demanding the project, the more open and collaborative the implementation model needs to be for the parties to establish a shared understanding of the optimal model of implementation and the challenges that can be solved with cooperation.
