The new Vuosaari Upper Secondary School is a modern learning environment and multipurpose centre
The new upper secondary school building, which has been erected in the immediate vicinity of the Vuosaari sports centre, metro station, Vuotalo, and shopping centre Columbus, is part of the Vuosaari city centre development project. Cityscape values and architecture have played an important role in the design of the building.
We were responsible for the design and construction, Caverion was be responsible for the building services and property maintenance. The upper secondary school building is the City of Helsinki's first project implemented with the life cycle model. Its architectural design was created by Verstas Architects.
The planning of Vuosaari Upper Secondary School paid special attention to the usability of the facilities. They support the music- and technology-oriented teaching and basic art education in the upper secondary school. A modern learning environment suitable for 900 students has been created for the upper secondary school, offering opportunities for cooperation and the use of versatile working methods.
The role of the building as a multipurpose centre for culture and leisure has also been taken into account in the design of the building. It provides much-needed additional space for the residential activities of the Vuosaari district’s 40,000 inhabitants and for organisations and events, especially during evenings and weekends.
The life-cycle model ensures that the completed premises are safe and healthy. Thanks to systematic maintenance and maximised energy efficiency, the property’s carbon footprint can be kept as low as possible.
