Aviapolis, Vantaa

The Ring Rail Line opened for service on July 1, 2015. We have participated in the construction of the Ring Rail Line’s tunnels and stations.

Aviapolis is one of two underground stations along the Ring Rail Line. Completed in 2014, Aviapolis was opened for service before the Helsinki Airport station. This meant that the station, at a depth of 40 metres, was Finland’s first fully underground railway station. With a length of approximately 300 metres, the station has the capacity to serve more than 2,000 passengers at a time.

The unique Aviapolis

The construction project, which was the first of its kind in Finland, began in May 2009 with the excavation of a service tunnel extending 40 metres down from the surface. The project continued with the excavation and reinforcement of the station hall and, later, the railway tunnels. Some 10,000 cubic metres of concrete and a million kilograms of reinforcement elements were used.

The tunnel station serves the people who work and live in the new residential and commercial hub of Aviapolis. The area along Aviabulevardi and on top of the railway station will be developed in the coming years into a centre for housing, work and hobbies. The area will have approximately 2,000 residents as well as office space for 15,000 employees. There are also plans for an entertainment centre and hotel as well as local services for the people who live and work in the area.
