Kupittaan kärki Partnership Project, Turku
The legendary hotel Hamburger Börs in the city centre of Turku was renewed.
We demolished the hotel building constructed in the 1970s and built a new one in its place. The oldest section of Hamburger Börs, a protected building from 1885, was be kept unchanged.
The street side section will house hotel rooms. The new nine-storey wing in the inner courtyard features hotel rooms along with the hotel’s reception area and restaurants. There is retail premises at the street level approximately 1020 m2. There is 270 rooms in the hotel.
The hotel is located right in the heart of Turku, next to the Market Square. The clayey soil in the area is sensitive to vibration, which has created special requirements during the demolition work. The old deciduous trees in the courtyard are also protected.
The architecture of the new building pays tribute to the heritage of Turku’s Market Square: the architectural characteristics of the early 1900s have been taken into account in the design. Börs will be restored to its former glory as an important part of the city’s history.
The property is owned by LocalTapiola and it will be used by Scandic Hotels.
