We are building hundreds of new apartments and parking spaces in Helsinki’s Koskela neighbourhood in preparation for its vibrant future.
We are building HITAS, right-of-occupancy, rental and special apartments in the Koskela hospital area for Helsingin Asuntotuotantotoimisto ATT (Housing Production Bureau of the City of Helsinki). We will also build the yard areas of the block. The hospital will continue to operate in the protected hospital building, but we are constructing seven new buildings that will comprise three housing companies. We will also build an underground parking garage that will be built on two floors under the yard deck.
The contract comprises three housing companies with a total of 365 apartments.
“We are happy to have a significant role in developing the Koskela area in an even more dynamic direction,” explains YIT’s Kimmo Koivumäki, Vice President, Tender-Based Contracting in Residential Construction.
The subconstruction of the site was considered exceptionally challenging compared to normal residential building sites. We carried out excavation work of about 10 metres deep, approximately 2,000 bored piles and 900 impact piles worth of piling, about 5,000 m2 of sheet pile wall as well as cast-in-place structures and post-tensioning. The project included a total of about 35 km of bored and impact piles.
“The project has demanding establishment and foundation conditions that require special competence. YIT has solid experience in earth and foundation engineering, and we will be able to utilise our strong professional skills in this project,” explains YIT’s Jouni Hyvärinen, Vice President, Ground Engineering and Industrial Construction.
The preliminary construction for the site started in April 2020, and the estimated completion is in 2023.
