The Lahti Travel Centre brought different modes of transport together in one place when the operations of the Lahti bus station were transferred to the new travel centre in the connection of the train station in early 2016. The contract included the construction of a terminal structure for long-distance buses, modifications to roads and light traffic lanes, lift and stair shafts, local bus stops, connecting parking places and a bicycle parking area.
The project was carried out according to a light version of the alliance model, in which the parties were the City of Lahti (commissioner), YIT Infrastructure Services (contractor) and Sito Oy (designer). The benefits of the alliance could clearly be seen. The project was demanding, and the costs could be kept lower than with any other model.
The Lahti Travel Centre is the second busiest Matkahuolto facility after the Kamppi terminal in Helsinki.

It is better to build than to argue – the alliance model works well in complex projects
