Kupittaan kärki Partnership Project, Turku
We built modern logistics premises for Finnish Design Shop
We built modern, high-quality office and storage facilities along the Turku Ring Road in cooperation with NREP Logicenters, a developer and owner of logistics properties. The main designer was Arkkitehtiruutu Oy, a company specialised in the construction of logistics premises. The facades were designed by Avanto Arkkitehdit Oy and the interior by Studio Joanna Laajisto Oy.
The property was built near the airport in Turku. The premises are leased to Finnish Design Shop, which sells Nordic design, for its online store operations. Due to the growth of international e-commerce, a location near the airport was particularly important. The premises provide space for Finnish Design Shop’s headquarters, a showroom for the online store’s product selection and an employee restaurant.
In addition to office, terminal and storage facilities, the project included the construction of yard and junction areas. The total floor area of the project is approximately 12,000 m2, and the volume is approximately 153,700 m3.
The project was implemented as a modified turnkey contract in close cooperation with the client. Construction started in October 2020, and the project was completed in August 2021, making a total construction time of approximately 10 months. The construction was more challenging than usual as the frame erection took place during winter and the user and client had a large number of acquisitions.
Concrete, wood and glass were used as the main surface materials of the impressive building. The focus was on energy efficiency. The building is heated by geothermal heat and electricity is produced locally at an on-site solar power plant. Sustainable development was considered in even the smallest details. During construction, the aim was to preserve as many trees on the plot as possible in order to maintain an enjoyable environment.
