Kupittaan kärki Partnership Project, Turku
We carried out all the green area work and stonework on roofs, deck yards and ground-supported areas in Tripla.
A total of 14,500 m2 of granite tiling was installed in the Tripla area, along with approximately 1,500 m2 of granite curbstones, dice-shaped stones and setts. The dice-shaped stones were also used to create guidance strips for visually impaired visitors. Approximately 2,300 square metres of concrete paving was installed on the roof yards. We installed the play equipment in the play areas and the cast-formed safety surfaces. The green roofs were also part of the contract.
Challenges with the green area work and stonework included things like the planter boxes, which required us to consider stormwater removal, ensure that plants get enough water and make sure that the structures below the boxes were functional. The bedrock partially affected tree planting, because it limited the thickness of the substrate in ground-supported areas.
Wooden structures were also an important part of yard construction. For example, we constructed a recreational area from Accoya wood in Tripla’s residential yard deck.
Tripla’s large number of visitors means that the materials face a lot of wear and tear, which has caused certain challenges, like plants not being able to properly take root.
